I started working when I was 15 years old. Since then I have probably had well over 100 jobs. I stopped counting about 15 years ago. Ask The Dave. He'll vouch. It used to be a thrill ride for me. I never worried about being unemployed because getting a job came so easily. TOO easy. Now I'm getting old and have responsibilities that no longer allow me the luxury to job hop.
Please understand. It's not because I don't like to work. I understand that work = money = spending. I like to shop. I like nice things. My motto is "Happiness is just a payday away".
My problem is I get bored easily. Once I learn the job and perfect it, I need more. I need challenge.
Back to my current sitch. I have been at my current job for over a year and a half now, which is pretty monumental for me. The company I work for is well established. We are growing fast. I make decent money. It's a laid back environment. I work with great people and have awesome benefits. Unfortunately, it is a fairly monotonous dead end job. Which is OK at this point in my life, because it pays the bills and allows us to live comfortably. So Monday they posted a new position within the company in the Purchasing department. On a whim Tuesday I applied. I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about purchasing. Yesterday I learned they chose me for the position. I'm giddy. I feel proud. I haven't felt that in a long time. They tell me there is a lot of growth opportunity. My new boss is an amazing woman. As much as I love my old boss, and feel badly for abandoning her, I know that this is a good move for me. So wish me luck!!!
